Helen’s voice has been recently described as “one that we need to hear more of, fantastic for country
music”. She started singing as a hobby in March 1999 making her debut on the verandah of Adelaide Community Radio Station Three D's weekly live to air programme, the Hillbilly Hoot.
Making her debut as a member of the Texettes 5 piece (April 2000 to December 2002), the Texette Trio (March 2003 to July 2004) and the Texette Duo (March 2005), she has also undertaken countless live performances as part of the Hillbilly Hoot performer’s group.
Helen’s recording experience commenced with the Hillbilly Hoot 1999, 2001, 2004, 2005 "The Cowgirl Lounge" lead and backing vocals; 2001 Sasha Galliver’s "Angel Baby" album backing vocals; the Texettes "Sweetheart" album lead and backing vocals; 2003 "The Land That We Love" EP backing vocals; 2004 "Come Swim With Me" lead vocal; "You Can't Do That" backing vocal; "I Love Chocolate" backing vocal; lead and backing vocals with the Texettes duo's 2006 release, "Fearless" album, the 2008 release “Lost in Blue” and “The Lady and the Tramp” and “You Can’t Do That” albums 2009.
Helen and Terry made their debut as a duo at the Frances Folk Gathering in March 2005. It was here that Helen entered her first singing competition and came third in the Intermediate Vocalist Section. Further appearances at Frances saw her take second place in 2006 and win the Intermediate vocalist section in 2007. Helen considers that she has had two career highlights, being invited to participate in the 2008 SACCM’s Champion of Champion’s Talent Quest and “winning the 2008 Golden Oldie Vocal award at Pt. Augusta…..especially when you consider that I started singing at 51”. Since then, Helen has picked up individual awards, as a duet with Terry and with the Texettes Band. See awards page
Helen’s passion is to keep developing as a vocalist and to market and promote the Texettes music. “People say they want to hear me sing cover songs. It’s not that I don’t want to, it’s more about finding the time. Singing an original song is like being a parent, you create, you nurture, you watch it grow and then when it’s able to stand up for itself you let it go” ……I love that process”.
